Players Take Trip Down Memory Lane
On Monday, October 6, Philadelphia Flyers Alumni Bob Kelly, Dave Schultz, Bernie Parent, Bill Barber, Terry Crisp, Joe Watson, Gary Dornhoefer and Ed Van Impe took participants from the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation down memory lane at the Wachovia Spectrum. Students visited the former Flyers locker room where they enjoyed a collection of stories as well as a Q&A session with the Stanley Cup winners.
The Flyers legends were dressed in their original home jerseys and took the time to sign autographs and take pictures with everyone. Afterwards, ESYHF players headed to their own locker room and began changing into their equipment for a special 90 minute practice on the Spectrum Ice.
The Flyers Alumni also appeared at the Spectrum on Tuesday, October 7, for a special pre game ceremony honoring the club’s two Stanley Cup championships. The Philadelphia Flyers were making their final appearance at the Spectrum for an exhibition game versus its American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms. The capacity crowd erupted as the Alumni made their way to center ice.
ESYHF participants joined the Flyers Alumni for the pre game ceremony as a group of participants displayed a “Remember the Spectrum” banner, while another group of students joined Ed Snider as he raised the Stanley Cup banners to the Spectrum rafters one final time. It was an unforgettable experience for the students to be on the ice with the Stanley Cup champions in front of 17,000+ fans.
